Authors are quite possibly the most insecure people on the planet. No matter how much or how long they write, and no matter how many people say they enjoyed reading a particular book, I believe most writers worry their writing isn’t good enough. I certainly do. The problem with this mindset is if you allow yourself never to do anything until it is perfect, you’ll never do anything.
This is why we need to make it okay to make mistakes and to accept that sometimes, despite our best efforts, we get things wrong or allow ourselves to be embarrassed. We need to stop having sleepless night because we’re not perfect. The challenge is to keep going and recognise its okay to make mistakes – as long as we learn from them.
In this video I talk about the things I do to stay motivated as a writer and why it is I persist, as so many others do to pursue their passion. I would be interested to know what you do to force yourself to keep going, no matter the pursuit, even when it sometimes seems you won’t succeed.
